Create Site Content Type in SharePoint using PowerShell

The example in this topic show how to use PowerShell to Create Site Content Type in SharePoint

  • # Provide credentials over here
  • $creds = (New-Object System.Management.Automation.PSCredential "<<UserName>>",(ConvertTo-SecureString "<<Password>>" -AsPlainText -Force))
  • # Provide URL of the Site over here
  • # If you do not wish to pass credentials hard coded then you can use: -Credentials (Get-Credential). This will prompt to enter credentials
  • Connect-PnPOnline -Url http://MyServer/sites/MySiteCollection -Credentials $creds
  • # Specify the parent content type over here
  • $parentContentType = Get-PnPContentType -Identity "Excel based Status Indicator"
  • # -Name: Provide new content type name
  • # -Description: Description of the new content type
  • # -Group: Name of the group under which the new content type will be created
  • Add-PnPContentType -Name "a test Content Type" -Description "New content type description" -Group "Custom Content Types Group" -ParentContentType $parentContentType
  • Disconnect-PnPOnline
